Llorente has repeatedly refused media requests this season. He failed to attend the mixed zone after scoring against Espanyol, and has not attended a single press conference this season.

Troubled times continue at Athletic Bilbao.

Full-back Jon Aurtenetxe faced the media from the Lezama training ground on Monday and as he did so the club released the following message on its official Twitter account.

"As well as Aurtenetxe, Fernando Llorente was supposed to face the media, but Llorente has refused the request."

Llorente reportedly left the training ground just before the press conference was due to begin.

However, he had already arranged an interview with a local television station for Monday afternoon, which is due to be broadcast on Monday night around 10pm. It will be one of very few interviews he has given this season.

This is not the first time such a situation has occurred. When Llorente scored against Espanyol earlier in the season, the club asked him to go to the mixed zone following the game to speak to the media, but he did not turn up. However, he gave a number of interviews later that day.

Llorente has not given a single press conference this season, and has only spoken once in the mixed zone, after Athletic's Europa League game with Shomona at San Mamés, and gave an interview to television station Cuatro ahead of the Europa League tie with Lyon.

After Athletic's 1-5 defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabéu, president Josu Urrutia was asked about the fact that Madrid fans had chanted Llorente's name, but dodged the question, instead talking about Markel Susaeta, who Madrid fans repeatedly taunted during the game.

"The chants towards Susaeta had more of an impression on me, he doesn't deserve that" said Urrutia.
