LUIS SUAREZ hit the headlines for all the right reasons as Liverpool came from behind to claim a point at Anfield.
The Reds fell behind two minutes before the break when Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye unleashed a thunderbolt.
Cabaye's strike came largely against the run of the play as the visitors looked to pick up their first league victory in front of the Kop since 1994.
But Toon were denied three points when Suarez brought down a long pass from Jose Enrique before rounding Tim Krul and rolling the ball into an empty net.
Having delivered the 67th-minute equaliser, the striker then got the better of Fabricio Coloccini to tee up what should have been a winner for the onrushing Jonjo Shelvey.
The Liverpool faithful jumped to their feet ready to celebrate, only to see a stretching Shelvey poke the ball into the grateful arms of Krul from his team-mate's cutback.
Suarez was the architect again as the hosts went in search of a deserved second goal, but Raheem Sterling was denied by a last-gasp block by Steven Taylor.
Brendan Rodgers continued to urge his side forward at every opportunity, yet the game's final talking point was produced by Newcastle — for all the wrong reasons.
Coloccini raced in to close down Suarez but was given his marching orders for a dangerous studs-up challenge on the Uruguayan six minutes from time.
